What are the pros and cons of a lava rock perch, I have one that I got when I got Roscoe. Since I am not sure if they are beneficial to my babies I have not used it yet... really just trying to find out if I should toss it in the trash or not.

Would you like to stand on lava all day?

Toss it - they are dangerous.

Do a google on lava rock hazard bird.

You will find that lava rock can kill your bird.

Hey Chrissy, don't feel bad. WHen I first got Baby the folks at the pet center recomended a variety of toys - including a lava rock, of which I bought.

They were the same nuts that sold me corn cob bedding.

We do learn - don't we?

This came with Roscoe, my daughter inhereted it when she bought him... she never did let him have it either.. I just wanted to be sure before I threw it away.

Don't feel bad. Before I got the Kings 506 the only way Chicken could eat was to stand on a cement perch. Now that I have the bigger cage I've moved the perch somewhere he can use it conveniently but doesn't have to use it if he doesn't want to. I felt bad for awhile because he very rarely uses it now. Now it's more of a toy than anything, he gets food in his beak and grinds the food on the cement perch. lol

Bonnie, maybe it is just me, but I don't like the cement perches either.

Like I said, he very rarely uses it and it's usually to play with his food.
