Back in October we contacted a rescue about taking in a senior Chihuahua we hadn't heard anything so we thought she had found a home.Well now it's January and the rescue contacted us along with my sister who had an acquaintance who also had a Chihuahua who needed placement.Last night we took in the one my sister told us about. Now today a friend of mine who gave me her Harlequin Macaw contacted me regarding 5 parrots who need a home. The details aren't clear yet but they will be soon.Apparently he works too much and is just looking for a good home for these parrots. There must be a sign on my head that says vacancy!

OMG Marcia! I've noticed things tend to happen in spurts like that. Maybe because it's just after the holidays? I don't know!
But, the word has definitely gotten out that you are an animal lover!

Sometimes I would like to hide under a rock.It has been like this almost all my life like they know.:eek:It's bad enough that someone just gave us 3 parrots in October cage,
supplies and all.I'm not really complaining because I love to help but I'm ready to put the NO VACANCY sign out!:yeah:

I completely understand! I am thankful your husband is supportive!
I know I will always have exactly as many animals as my husband can tolerate... and we are at our limit now. ;)
But, to think of all the animals and pups you've been able to help... that's just wonderful !

LOL, you better be careful, that's exactly how I ended up doing what i'm doing! Word got around that i spoiled my birds and presto, birdies showing up on my doorstep. Sadly, I put a no vacancy sign out on my door when it comes to outdoor birdies. I'm too paranoid about disease, though I do feel bad when I get about a million calls in the summer about baby birds falling out of a nest. I'm going to have to call on some other folks to foster any more birds that may be needing my assistance for a while, now that we have Wanda's angels. I'm excited because it'll give me a chance to meet new people!
Anyway, I think those people run to you because they see how kind hearted you are. That's the kind of ink that doesn't wash off, either! :p

Somehow I have a penchant for finding baby birds that have fallen out of trees. If they are protected birds, I call our local Wildlife Rescue. If they are starlings, I found a lady in the area who takes them in, raises them, and then acclimates them to being outside by putting them in flight cages and then eventually opening the flight cages.
You'd be surprised how few people are interested in helping starlings. The lady I am speaking of kept one as a pet that had a broken wing. It talks like a parrot! I haven't found an "english sparrow" (unprotected) yet. Don't know what I would do. You can't be in possession of wildlife in Virginia without having a license. And, like you, I wouldn't want to expose my birds to disease, etc. from wild birds. We have avian flu here in crows.

My husband says that sign on the door sys"The suckers live here" I grew up with baby birds off the ground, stray cats & lame dogs & the occasional lost soul at the dinner table. Therefore our house is the same. Problem is that you end up on full with both dogs & cats that are unadoptable due to behavior or health issues. Have retired from all the furry rescues I think someone else has that baton now. Still able to take in the occasional bird as the house is large enough to maintain separation.:tape:

" We have avian flu here in crows."
I re-read this post and scared myself. It isn't avian flue. It's West Nile; but the crows die from it.

Just in case it is good to know that pigeons appear to have immunity to avian flu.
