And WoW! What a crazy couple of days it has been! I have been busy shifting around the aviary to make everone fit, hauling cages and setting them up, scrubbing, buying food, toys, perches, etc. Today I'm going to work on organizing my office inside the house to provide a nice play area for Wanda's birds (and my own!)
Michelle arrived with the birds at 4:00am this morning. They were all a little tired from the trip, especially Michelle (who is a saint and deserves much credit for this even happening) but everyone was well. Wanda, your birds are beautiful, sweet, and well mannored. They have love written all over them and they will be a joy to have here. Everyone is adjusting to their new surroundings and each of them seem to be taking it very well. Dolly (M2) was showing off, whipping her head from side to side, proclaiming "Wooooow!" and "Hi Dolly!" Eve (U2) is as sweet and cuddly as Wanda described her and she has been quietly sitting saying "Evey" in the most adorable loving little voice. I must say, most african greys do not care for me but Lucy is a sweety. I will really enjoy getting to know her. Benny has been shy and we are watching him to make sure that he is eating, but he has conceeded to some cuddling and is happu to be near his sisters.
And speaking of Bennys. We have two in the flock now so we're going to have to make some name arrangements. From now on I think I will refer to our Benny as King Benny or Benny Boy and wanda's Benny as Brother Benny...so not to be terribly confusing. I think Benny Boy was more terrified than any one of Wanda's birds combined when I brought them into the avairy one by one. My poor baby hung from his cage like a shivering bat and kept giving me those sad, hold me, eyes. I did cuddle him a bit before I finally got to bed (at 5:30 this am) and he is feeling much better about all of this newness this afternoon.
I will take pictures of the birds in a little bit when I go out to clean cages (Gabe is late for his nap, running around like a wild child, so I'm stuck inside for the time being.) Wanda, I know that you are missing your babies dearly. Please let me know if you need anything at all and you can feel free to call me any time, as often as you would like. Michelle, thank you again for your kindness. I only hope that someone will be able to repay you someday for the wonderful thing that you have done. Thank you HB family for being so supportive, in every way possible. You all are amazing!
