Hey there Brenda!
Just wanted to ask how Sydney is doing with her plucking. I know she is really happy there with you, even if she continues to pull feathers.

1st let's do an update on her beak. It has begun to split again, it's about 1/4 inch long right now. I have consulted with her vet and I am to keep watch and we may go the route of putting an acrylic patch on to get her to the strong part of her beak. If this is the case we will most likely be referred to Kansas State.

I just took a picture 2 nights ago so I could give some kind of update.
She hasn't just gone to town pulling any, and it's more like she shreds them as she's preening. Mark and I have watched her preen and it seems as if they get stuck in the split in her beak. Some she does pull, but we don't believe all.
She is still beautiful to me as she is. I couldn't love her more. If she always plucks a bit, I just must except that.

Today we have been outside on the deck 3 times already, she's been very insistant! I hope being inside this winter won't get her down too much, this will worry me. I have lots of big windows though and we'll do the best we can.

She is letting me get those pinnies about everyother day now so we're keeping her baby look cleaned up. This morning she really was enjoying having her feathers rubbed backwards, I stopped and she growled so I did it somemore, she decided she likes that feeling!

Every Saturday the birds get weighed, Syd included. It's getting easier to get her to step onto the scale but I still have to bribe her with a treat. This morning she weighed at 1086g last Saturday it was 1083g.

The Queen is calling...

Brenda,
I'm soo sorry to hear about Sydney's beak. What a mess. I feel kind of guilty - her beak split in your care, not mine and I feel responsible for that. I wish I had gotten a second opinion about that crack when my vet said it was fine. Now you'll have to pay for that decision.

It looks like Syd is still plucking some, but her eyes are just lit up! If she is plucking them on purpose, I am quite sure that it is not out of anxiety or depression...just a habitual behavior. If anyone can get her to stop, it will be you, but you are gracious to love her even if she is never fully feathered. She is such a wonderful creature and it really warms my heart to hear how loved she is. :)

When you take that photo of her beak send a copy to Peggy she does therapeutic beak trims and had managed to correct some serious problems. Let her give you an opinion and a possible recommendation.

I second this as an excellent idea.

Peggy has sent me some instructions, I myself can't do them, I am going to talk to the vet and see if maybe they can. If I could afford it, I'd fly Peggy up here.
