Reported To Animal Control Officer!

Wednesday when I came home I had a notice on my door from the ACO.
After playing telephone tag for a couple of days I finally was in contact with him.Thinking it was a noise complaint he explained it wasn't.The person who complained claimed to be a friend of ours who had just been in our house and said we had over 30 birds and many were dead and unkept.
I more or less laughed when the ACO officer said that and explained that this is not possible because none of my friends had been in our house recently and that there were no birds dead in cages while others were unkept.He wanted to know how many birds I had and their sizes and if I was a breeeder?I told him 27 and told him about my vet who comes to our house to give check ups.I added that I left my avian vet practice that I was a customer for over 13 years due to poor service.:( The ACO will be contacting my new avian vet who use to work for my old vet but started her own practice.When I left many others who I knew left too.It sounds to me like a disgruntle ex-vet trying to get back at me.My birds are Not neglected or abused or dead in their cages and it's really sad that someone would file such a false complaint when there are real animals out there suffering.:mad:

There is always some one who just has to stir the pot. Unhappy folk who have too much time and not enough to do. There are real problems out there in the world perhaps they should go and do some good deeds instead. Probably will never happen that way. Hi Marcia.
I'm sorry you had to go through all that. I would have been crushed. Unfortunately there are people out there who are wanting to get even. A few years ago, I had a rumor spread around about me that I cared more about my birds than my son - who struggled with behavioral problems even as an infant due to the celiac disease. When I reached out for help from another mom, this is what I got.

I have no idea how the law works where you are at but if I were in your situation I would simply invite the animal control officer over for a friendly visit so that he could see that everything is in order as you describe. It sounds like your vet may be able to vouch for you though, which is just as good. Let us know how it turns out.

There is a thing called the "Freedom of Information Act - use it !! I doubt the call to AC was anonymous, becuase they usually brush those off as crank calls, you can find out who your 'friend' is, even if they try to put you off, it's just a minor inconvenience to them to comply. And even a bigger potential problem for them if they try to deny you your rights.

I agree 100%. It's just a coincident that it's all happening the same time. The ACO will be coming sometime today. Oh well we'll see what happens.
