Some of you know that I have recently retired. This new chapter in my life has given me time to devote to my passion. Most of you know me well enough to know what that passion is. Just read my signature... it will explain.
I am sharing with you the beginning chapter of Molly's Story. I was going to do a lengthily explanation of what the book is about - but I think you know me well enough... there is no need for that.
I will say... Molly is a composite of all companion parrots every where. She represents the wanted, the loved, the cared for... the unwanted, the unloved and the abused. Her name is Baby, Chicken, Fergie, Linus, Carl, Harry, Fred, Daisy, Sydney, Hobbit, Bhrodi, Sunshine, Gyro and the many with no names at all.
Molly's Story's purpose is to let the world know the joys and heartaches of having companion parrots in our homes and in our hearts. Hopefully through Molly I will be able to help people everywhere take better care of these marvelous creatures.
Now for the legalize stuff... Molly's Story is purely a work of fiction, any reference to persons dead or alive or parrots dead or alive is coincidental.
Here is the beginning of Molly's Story.

Larry that is really good, when can we expect more?
Again I say that the CAG should not begin talking before it fledges. Some young kid will believe that can happen and will talk his parents into a CAG. When the bird doesn't talk (for the normal two years), the kid will be disappointed and start to ignore the bird. Please change that.

I thank each and every one of you for taking time to read the beginning chapter of Molly's Story. And I thank you for your kind words.
Yes - my Muse did come to me for an unexpected visit - and she is still here with me. It wasn't I who asked for the story and it was not I who thought it up - it was given to me as a gift and it is also an awsome responsibility. I truly do believe the universe has a way of working itself out. I just hope I do my job and do it well.

Dot - please do not fret so... There is a scene that tells of a doting mother attempting to buy her 13 year old daughter a parrot. It is handled properly.
It is impossible to write a story about parrots without telling of their charm and beauty. If I were to worry if a child were to talk their parent into getting a parrot because of me writing of their charm, beauty, or talking abilities - then I would not write one word at all.
Also - yes it is plausable for a Grey to start talking before it fledged. My friend who is a breeder got such one about a year ago. And that bird was more of a Too than a Grey by the way it wanted to cuddle.
A personal experience of mine... years ago I raised a Quaker from 3 days old and that bird did in fact start talking before it fledged. So -- I cannot eliminate truth because of fearing what I write will be taken the wrong way by wrong minded people. I will do my best to tell all that I can about what is best for the birds - including parrots should not be bought as pets for children. But some people will do what they will do no matter what... that is the way things work.

Hi,
A coupla comments:-)
Larry, this is off to a great start!! I wanted to be able to concentrate on my reading, I think two ways...one as a reader and one as an editor. That means I read everything twice wearing different hats:-)
With respect to talking greys, Sami one of our CAGS is one of the more brilliant CAGS I've seen and I'm not just saying that because he is here:-) This guy was talking before he was weaned and was doing full sentences long before he fledged.
This is the guy that we have real conversations with and he keeps everything in proper context. If he says, "Ahhh, That's just a doggie outside", you can expect to see a dog outside. When the trash is being picked up, he'll tell us "That's the garbage"...We had an electricain come in and Sami looks at him and says: "Yep, the guys gotta work". The electrician stopped in his tracks and couldn't believe what he had just heard.
Of course, not all greys are this smart but the point is depending upon who you talk to, if a grey is destined to be an outstanding talker, the bird will start pretty early.
I'm looking forward to the next installment.
Nice Work!

Talking depends on the bird and yes there are birds that talked before they are weaned including CAG's. Sam, my CAG did not talk early and to this day rarely says anything. He likes to tell people, dogs and birds to go potty and will say no bite when he a bird is getting ready to bite. Then you have AVA, talking before being weaned, handicap with no feet and she says over 300 words and phrases.
Any bird known to talk will attrack people for that reason. It's helping them learn the other charms .
Larry, it was nice to sit back and read...but it ended much too soon! As the others I do expect an autographed copy. Thank you for letting us be some of the ones to do a first read.

I am crying happy tears.
