This hopefully is not an emergency at all... but I thought it good to share this.

I just now noticed that Baby is sitting on the bottom of her cage. Always a sign to look for.

Things that are a little off... Usually in the morning I take her out of her cage and she shares some natural berry tea with me... no cafeine. I fixed her tea and noticed she already had a full crop so she most likely would not be interested in her morning tea... I was right. She had no interest in her tea. I figured she had already drank some water that made her crop full. Not normal for her to have a full crop the first thing in the morning.

The next thing I noticed that this morning's poops were a bit small. They looked regular but not as much as she usually has.

Also - she hasn't eaten anything yet this morning. Usually by now she has munched on things in her bowl - but not this morning.

Also - she usually chews on some of her wood toys first thing in the morning... she hasn't touched any of them as of yet.

What I am watching out for...
Is her crop going to empty in a couple hours?
Will she eat something?
Will she get off the bottom of her cage?
Will she start chewing on her toys?

So - as usual... it is a Friday and tomorrow starts the weekend when it becomes next to impossible to get hold of emergency avian vets.

I will keep a close eye on her and if she does not go back to normal very soon - I will call my vet.

I will keep you all posted.

Keep us posted please. Is she acting nesty? How was her behavior last night? Did she eat or drink anything out of the ordinary?

Not acting nesty. Last night was normal - nothing out of the ordinary... but you know how these stinkers are... they hide their illnesses so well.

When I took her out of her cage this morning - nothing out of the ordinary - but the full crop had me concerned and I listed the other things in my post.

She is now on her perch with one foot up... good sign. Usually this time in the morning she takes "open eye siestas"... nothing unusual about her "present" behavior.

I am keeping a close eye on her... any suggestions or thoughts would be appreciated.

You can very gently massage the crop it should assist the process-very gentle. Slow crop can be a yeast or bacterial issue. It wouldn't hurt to recheck the crop every 30 min or so if it is not emptying then call the Vet. Probiotics should be helpful in any case.

I have been closely watching her. She had a poop - a bit watery but that is expected because I believe her crop was full of water and not food since she ate nothing yet this morning. Her crop has emptied a bit - so that is a good sign.

I will keep you all posted as things progress.

They do give us some worries - don't they?

pappa is on the watch, that is good. I hope Baby just drank a bunch of water and there's no concern. Will check back for updates.
I can usually tell by the feel of the crop if it's food or water, more ballony it's water, harder more oblong it's food.

Hey folks,

Thanks for your support.

Her crop emptied okay. She has not been back down to the bottom of her cage... she has been perching okay. But she hasn't eaten much today. Poops are okay.

She is sitting quietly and hasn't messed with her toys. It could be she is having an off day.

Her being on the bottom of her cage - just sitting there threw up red flags. The last time she did that 3 years ago she was a real sick girl.

I think she is okay. I will keep monitoring her. I will get her weight this evening and see where she is.

I will keep you all posted... but I think she is fine.

Anne - she is doing fine. She must have been having an off day yesterday. It really made me take notice when whe was just sitting on the bottom of her cage -- unlike her. The last time she did that 3 years ago she was a mighty sick girl... so I watch out for unusual behavior no matter how slight.

Thank you all for your concerns.

Baby had a great day today. Sat and Sun are the only 2 days she is out of her cage all day long. She looks forward to the weekends. She had my wife and me in stitches most of the day. She sure knows how to tease and put on a show.

She had a short afternoon nap and went back at it again. At 8:30 the girl was tuckered and went right to bed with the fluff up and beak grindy thing.

She is doing very well. It most likely was a tempory fluke for her to be sitting on the bottom on her cage. What concerned me was she was down there for almost an hour.

They do have a way of keeping us on out toes.
