. . . it's not species specific and I love hearing all the stories and seeing all the pictures of all the different kinds of exotics. I've learned so much about them all.

The only downside is . . . I want one of each! :umm:

Awww,
I agree! I think it's awesome to have a place where we can hear about and share stories of all of our birds. Diane, we love hearing about your little alien, Cloud...and I just love the picture of him that you used next to your name!

I also love the fact that it is not species specific. I only have a M2, but being here I get to see how a variety of birds behave. I have also learned a lot about the different types of birds. I also get to see how the different birds who have 'brothers and sisters' interact. If I were on a board where we only talked about tooz, I'd never get to hear about Peggy Sue or Blusher or any of the other wonderful babies we get to see here!

Couldn't agree more with you Bonnie. There is a down side though. You become enchanted, mesmorized or worse....get NEB disease!!! they are all so fascinating. I think a great subject would be BIRD of the MONTH. Talk about one species...do research about them. Look up geography, what type of vegetation is local to the area. Just so much we could to with the subject.

Yes, HB is a great place...one stop birding...friends area, education, variety of birds discussed, serious topics of safety and health...yep, I think it covers a lot. And.....:dancered::D:yahoo::nanner::tup::alien: it has these little guys and...aliens which no one else has!!!

When I adopted Cloud, I didn't know about exotic bird forums. The first 8 months I had so many questions and relied on the many books I bought for answers. But there was a lot of repetition of general information. As I discovered in being an Emergency Medical Tech (EMT) for the past 27 years, reality is far more complicated than book scenerios. I found a species specific forum for cockatoos and found a wealth of information from people recounting their personal experiences and first-hand knowledge. Unfortunately, when that forum started to . . . IMHO . . . flail, I found myself lurking at a different species forum. I felt uncomfortable posting questions since I was asking for information on my species and not theirs.

I think a multi-species forum makes more sense, because, from what I have noticed, most bird people have more than one species (some have many, many different species under their roof). I like things simple . . .one place to learn about them all.

Also, I like having access to information to refer back to, without it working it's way out of archives and sent into cyberspace. Since my memory fails me alot, I like the ability to refer back to previously posted information.

Happy Birdy meets all my needs and makes me a happy birdy mommy!

I love the all bird forum. I am learning so much about tooz and other birds. Many of the things we talk about are not species specific, so we can all share about behavior and health.

I hope Uncle doesn't add different forums for Macaws. Amazons, Cockatoos, etc. I never can figure out how to find all the posts and even retired people won't sit and read every word. After all, there are toys to make, birds to cuddle, and books to read.

No Dot. We won't add species specific sections.

One thing I want to make perfectly clear. This is not "my" board. This is "your" board. It belongs to Dot, Bonnie, Wanda, Michelle, Anna, Marcia, Sandi, Jill(s), Liza, Bill, Don, and on and on.

Happy Birdy belongs to all of you. It is your board. I am only the person that makes sure the choo-choo doesn't jump the track.

I don't want Happy Birdy to be the biggest board - only the best board. I don't want to see who can do the most posts - only the best warm hearted posts... and of course the funniest posts.

I love these smilies.

We will never do membership drives to draw tons of new members. We get new members by word of mouth - by special invitaion from each of you to your dear friends. That is how we will grow.

There will be times when I will have to make "executive" decisions, but they should be rare. Most of the decisions are yours. Just tell me what you need and I and the Sentinels will see if it is in the best interest of all our Happy Birdy family. ;)

I would also like to commend the creators of Happy Birdy in acknowledging the importance of the human element of a healthy bird environment. You can't eliminate the human needs from the equation for a healthy and stable flock. When people assume the care and wellbeing of these personable, intelligent and inquisitive feathered beings, the entire flock dynamics depends on all it's members, having access to help and support and the security to know that other people are genuinely concerned and commited to seeing them through their difficult times.

I've seen what discouraging the acknowledgement of human needs can do to an otherwise informative forum and was very happy to see that People Things was part of the Happy Birdy forum. JMHO

Thanks, Uncle. I am old and easily confused. The blasted screen names are bad enough. :smiles: I love best the signature that says, Dot, this is Kristy. Of course, I can't remember whose it is. :haha:

I like the names "Sentinel" and "Valued Member" very much. I think they are both great executive decisions.

Another thing I like about HB are the funny posts. There are some very creative people here. I find myself looking forward to checking the posts here. That is not something I have felt in a long time.

We is just all guuuud! :yahoo: In reality we as a forum are as good as those of you who contribute you ideas, pictures, caring & knowledge. As long as we can discuss ideas & situations we can continue to help make life better for birds & people that come here.

When I was teaching, I never complained about modifications. I needed them, but they weren't offered to teachers.
