Buzz my first B&G Macaw has been with me for over 3 years since a acquaintance stole all but one of my birds 3 years ago.Buzz is now 13 years old and the screaming has gotten less but her tricks haven't.She came to me a mess plucked and screaming MA!She has been through a lot.I am told by the daughter in law of the person who owned her all the abuse she endured. From throwing things at her and screaming profanities at her.She was so happy to see me she jumped into my arms and since then the retraining has began. Her favorite pastime for a long time was screaming which I soon broke her out of.Now her it is 3 years later and it's a more tolerable scream. She was kept in her cage for long periods of time which showed in the piled of feces contained in her cage.Since then she has come a long way.Her favorite thing to do is as I'm passing her cage is to grab my clothes through the bars of her cage and make holes and destroy them.God knows how many pieces of items she has destroyed. After all this time she is still a plucker but not as bad as others I have seen.So now she is on a new medication and hopefully this will help her.One thing she hate men and strangers so to bring my husband in the birdroom is a big upset. We are still working on this.
She used to scream shut the heck.(you get the picture)But she has stopped over the years.
It sounds like you are doing a wonderful job with her. Congrats.

Marcia,
Please use regular size font. Large font is like shouting and it is hard to read.

Uncle, one day your eyes will start to fail and you'll appreciate that "shouting." :haha: Marcia's post was so easy for me to read. Thanks for the tip, though. I would use larger print, but as you are discovering, I am way lazy and that is too much trouble. I have taken to wearing my glasses while on the computer. I didn't used to have to do that. :(

I have been trying to remember that quote for so long - it's SO appropriate!! I had no idea where it came from, but have always been moved by it. Thank you.

I won't tell you how much time I spent trying to draw a "hat" so I could ask Uncle what he saw. :haha:

:alien:Good morning.
There is a difference in Font size and all caps. In computer etiquette all capital letters in a message is considered yelling or screaming. ALL CAPS IS HARD FOR SOME TO READ AS THERE IS NO BREAK IN THE SIZE. IT ACTUALLY IS HARDER TO READ. Now a font size might be larger and easier for some to Read but a font size of 3 maximum is generally the largest you want to go when using text on a board such as this. Any larger tends to crowd the screen. If you have a smaller computer screen the large letters are irritating. If you have all the room in the world (very large screen) and you are sitting at a distance the larger font size is not as irritating.
Hope this has helped clear up some things for you. One such area you see change in print is Readers digest...you have regular print version then there is the large print version. Large print version is great for those with seeing difficulty but when given the choice most will pick the one with regular print.
Thanks for you question. Do an internet search on computer etiquette or do a search for print types/reading. There is some great research out there. To enhance what I write though is I use the little guys who try to be so cool :dancered: or :alien:the alien who seems to make her way here.

Thanks Easy. That is good information.
We on happybirdy are trying to come up with some rules and guidelines for all of us to follow and we never want to hurt anyone's feelings. After all - we are family.
Uncle posted about using regular sized fonts -- but that might not have been a proper request of him not realizing that some family members might have a difficult time seeing.
I know for myself the frustration with not being able to see, that I now have cataracts forming on both eyes. They don't bother me with looking at the computer screen but it has become next to impossible to read books. And when it comes to driving - it is getting really scary. So I don't drive much anymore - bummer.
There is no eyeglass prescription that will make it better for me to see. And surgery cannot be done yet because they are not bad enough. So - I just have to live with my eyesight getting worse and worse until the cataracts are ready for surgery. It really stresses me to not be able to see. My living depends on me being able to read technicle books and manuals.
So my question is --- if some of us here have to use large fonts to be able to see the words - then please - oh please let us know.... each of us are a big part of our family and we want to make HappyBirdy a comfortable home for everyone.

Do you use Internet Explorer? You can make the font larger on most sites, but not on any of the government sites.
If you download Mozilla Firefox (just type as a search) and use it, you can make the font larger on any site by hitting Ctrl then +. That is what I do because I find it hard to read some of the fonts.
