I am going on a quick trip out to the Mid west next week (and SO looking forward to the humidity :czy:). We leave on Thurs EARLY morning, and come home Sunday at noon. So I've got a couple ideas on the transition for the fids.... What do ya'll think?

My fids have large "day" cages, set up with all the treats and toys. The boy tiels have been fighting a lot lately so hubby made up a divider so 1 cage acts like 2. Normally around 8pm every night I move all of the birds (except the too) into the bedroom. Thier "night" cages are much smaller with only one or two toys. The boys (tiels) huddle up together and go to bed for the night. Duch does the same. These 3 get covered every night. Around MY bed time Carl goes into the bedroom into the "night" cage and goes to bed, he does NOT get covered.

My deilema arizes in that my mother will be looking after the fids while I'm gone. She is wonderful with them, and they see her a couple times a day (we all live together). So it will be wonderful that someone they KNOW will be there to care for them. My worries are over the fact that they have NEVER sleept in the kitchen before, never in thier BIG day cages, and never without one of us in the room with them. Yes they ARE spoiled!

My idea was to sleep on the couch tonight :yawnn:(since hubby is traveling it will be easier for me to do this than the both of us). The tiels do get night frights. I was hoping that if I did this for one or two nights, then moved back into my bedroom, and left them out there things would then probably be ok for next week when we are really gone....? Am I being overly paranoid and they will be just fine?....

At our house the Too's get covered but not the Tiels. They seem to have fewer night frights when they can see the surroundings a bit in the ambient light.

May be I'll try that tonight.... Normally we cover them because they are "crabbing" and some times full singing at us if there is a single light on. They will even do this when the radio goes off in the morning too, at o'dark thirty.

Do you have a nite light to leave on?
I know I'm going to be paranoid when we go on vacation, I've never left my princess before.

I cover my Tiel(Gobbles) but there is a night light. You're not paranoid you're just trying to keep the routine as normal as possible, just remember they are in good hands, so try to enjoy your time away.
