It remains a substantial and very sad number of living things destroyed.

Thanks, Don. I am not reading on ASA so I don't know if you posted it there. I did forward it to Laurella.

"It remains a substantial and very sad number of living things destroyed."

And so the choice we are being confronted with is a future NO pets, because of the irresponsibilities of the few - education in animal husbandry is the only answer that will work.

I'm sorry, Don; but the person who wrote that article is misinformed and delusional. FOP allows him/her to have his/her say, but that person is setting back education and efforts about spaying and neutering.

Go to your local animal shelter and spend a day listening to all the ridiculous reasons people discard their pets--and those are just the ones who care enough to bring them to a shelter instead of dumping them somewhere. And there are many pure-bred dogs who turn up in shelters and rescues--a lot of them the result of back-yard breeders and puppy mills who are interested in nothing more than making a few bucks.

I suppose there aren't any homeless people, either--just people who prefer to live on the streets?

Evelyn, so you would enforce the spaying of my birds because some JackA somewhere raises too may cockatiels, or because the uneducated have too many Umbrella cockatoos and don't know how to care for them - that's what your kneejerk legislators want to do - and the birds are next !

How many times a day should I be required to change the shavings under my birds eggs ? That is how adamantly insane the AR folks want the laws to be !! Are you with us or against us. I'm sure it would be easier to remove the problem than educate about it - ask Germany and Russia...

As far as I know, there is no safe way to spay or neuter birds, unless you are making pullets, and I doubt they really care how many they kill while they are doing it.

They are talking about cats and dogs. They are denying there is an over-population of them. They are even claiming there is an "underpopulation."

Yours is the old "floodgates" argument used to frighten people by telling them, "It won't stop here." That is a fallacious argument.

Which is why we 'don't' have the WBPA and USDA preparing for aviary permits and inspections. I really hate to tell you this but it has already started.

Perhaps it won't affect the pet bird owners until they get civil complaints, but you are next. Don't tell me it won't affect birds, it already has.

You just cannot legislate intelligence or morality or even limit stupidity or ignorance. That is why we will always have Darwin award winners and politicians. :saythat:

You are 100% correct, Morality and Ethics cannot be Legislated, and there is no cure for stupid.
