Question....How many of you have pets for your birds. Currently I have fish which the birds find fascinating. My G2 sits next to the tank and very sneaky tries to grap a fish as it swims by (ooops, tank glass gets in his way lol)

I buy fish sometimes. I never can keep them alive though. I don't suppose that has anything to do with the fact that they go in with the turtle. Hmmmm... I suppose my birds have pet birds! They have look alikes painted on the walls above their cages. Does that count? I'm really trying here, can you tell? Or maybe I'm just really tired because it's 2:00 in the morning and the baby is wide eyed and not too happy about life. Ugh...I want my soft, cozy bed!

I empathize -remember all too well about not sleeping for what seemed like days on end. I tried to think of it as putting time in the bank for later. When other folks are having kid problems from leaving them crying & you didn't. Bird pets-well of course people are their pets of choice, so it's me! Harry also likes to pet the cat with his toes, the cats do worry about it, for some reason they don't feel safe.

Sami, the grey has Shadow, that's HIS cat:-) Sami also finds it necessary to babysit for all the other "chickens" in his close proximity.

Harry, a tiel likes to help me out with Jesse, the collie. Harry, likes to tell him "Good Boy" and "Your the Best, the Best , the Best:-)" but Dory, another grey really owns Jesse:-) They've been best buddies for years.

Have Fun,

Chaz, formerly my cat, is clearly now the property of Linus. Linus meows at him when he comes into the room, and lets him know exactly when he is and is not welcome there. Oh, and for the record, Linus can corral the cat into a corner before the poor thing knows what happened. I expect to come home one day and find Chaz hog-tied.

I've heard of the concept, but never have gotten them any pets.

I just don't trust them to take care of them properly. :D

They do have their own television, however! And several birdie DVDs. That doesn't really count, though, does it?

My CAG Duch has her own pet. Pede (tiel) is HER boy, and she will let all of us know it. She even lets him into her cage to eat her food (100% supervised by us!) some times. Other times the tiels just sit on the top/bottom corners of her cage protecting her.

I decided to get fish for my G2 to watch...got a 20 Gal tank under the guise of a Christmas present for my son a couple years ago. He went off to school and I took the tank and my 'too was not the least bit interested in the tank or the fish, but I got hooked. In order to take the best possible care of the fish, I delved into learning about fish and soon upgraded to a 30 gal tank and a few more fish. Well, big mistake.... To take proper care of all my pets, I had to let something go, and it was my fish tank. One can get as involved in fish care as in bird care, and I didn't have to time to do it right. So now I let Titus watch TV while I'm at work and he is just as happy with no fish tank. Me, too, as I have nore time for my Titus.

The tank is a 9 gal cylindrical tank for my pleasure and it sits by the computer desk. TC watches it when he is here with me. I did big fish tanks and sold my fish and plants to local pet stores. Didn't have to spend any money on the hobby. Now, just a small tank with minimal upkeep.

Oh, Patty!

I hate to say this, but I just can't help it.

Cats are so unpredictable. It would take only a second for Chaz to get Linus by the neck and bite down, and no more Linus.

I've heard so many people say, "My cat (or my dog) never pays any attention to the birds, or would never hurt the birds, or is afraid of the birds," only to find out the hard way by having that same cat or dog kill or seriously injure a bird. Sometimes it is a matter of playng too rough, but all too often the cat or dog just gets tired of being aggravated by the bird or is just tryng to defend itself.

I can't tell from your post whether or not you leave the bird and cat alone together. I don't even let my dogs get closer to my birds than I am. They've never shown any interest in the birds, but they are all big dogs who could kill with a single bite or a swipe of the paw.

Just please be careful. I love cats, but I would never trust one not to do something that is in its nature to do.

You've probably heard the old story about the frog and the scorpion. The scorpion wants to get to the other side of the river but it can't swim. He asked the frog to take him across. The frog said, "You are a scorpion. You'll sting me and I'll die. The scorpion said, "It would be stupid of me to sting you; if you die, I will drown." That made sense to the frog, so he let the scorpion get on his back, and the frog starts swimming across the river. About half-way across, the scorpion stings the frog. The frog, as he is dying, says, "You promised you wouldn't do that. Why did you sting me?" The scorpion says, as he is drowning, "I can't help it. It's my nature."

My u2s and lsc have their pet boston terrier spot that they play with each in their own way. Sugar my u2 barks and yells at him and spot barks and play bites with teeth under gums at her, Angel our lsc runs after him and hangs off his collar by tags, Casper the other u2 barks at him and takes his toys in her cage and will not give it back to him.
Spot has a pet cat named gumson that he run back and forth in the trailer and the cat runs after him too.It is fun to watch but too fast for video.
will got to go and feed the baby poinus bye for now

By the way, I agree with this 1000%. No cats or dogs are around when the birds are out. Thats a golden rule here.

When Sami calls Shadow, it is when he is in his cage. It's the The same with the other furries.
