Subject: Messing with the Subject's head
We continue to mess with the Subject's head. "Nap time" is, as she says, "a hoot." The Red-fronted, Blue-fronted, and Napeless Aliens grind their beaks and do one-footers. The Scarlet Alien does a one-footer, but keeps her eyes open, at least the eye facing the Subject. ;)
After the allotted time for sleeping, the Subject puts us on our assigned "play places." As soon as the Scarlet Alien sets her foot on her swing, she says, "Night night" and does a one- footer. This greatly confuses the Subject.
The Subject has gone to great length to research this behavior. We resemble a species on earth called birds, and the Subject reads all she can about them. She told a friend that birds in the wild flock together. At night they perch on a tree limb. All the birds close their eyes except the one next to the tree and the bird at the end. The bird next to the tree leaves his left eye open and watches for danger from that direction. The bird on the end leaves his right eye open and watches for danger from that direction. After a short period of time, these two watch birds fly up in the air and light again in a different place on the perch. Thus, there are two new watch birds and all the birds get a good night's sleep.
The Subject is convinced that the Scarlet Alien watches for danger while the other "birds" sleep, then sleeps as soon as the other "birds" wake up.
You gotta love 'em.
