Pookie is a 20 year old congo african grey who is just about the sweetest little gal in the world. She came from the same couple who gave up the macaws (see post Daisy & Popeye). Pookie came at a good time since we are still going through some Sunshine withdrawls and it feels good to have another grey in the house. (By the way Evelyn, Sunshine is doing fantastic and has started naming off all sorts of new foods hoping they will be dropped into his bowl. his new owner gives him treats and tells him what the treat is called once and he is repeating that name every time he wants the treat thereafter. She is convinced that he has made everyone his servant. Also, he has learned a new letter in the "Spell Albuquerque" sequence, so he's still learning!) Anyway, Pookie is super sweet and super relaxed. She hardly blinked an eye when her owners brought her over and she realized she was staying. She looks a little malnourished and will do well to have a more varied diet but is not a picky eater. Her previous owners explained that she was almost totally plucked when they got her and she has sense grown most of her feathers in. That being said, I am not sure if the bare patch that is on her neck will ever grow back, but her other feathers will look great once she has some nutrition in her diet.

After getting all of her things set up, I started to leave the room but felt guilty about leaving her locked in her cage as she was used to being out. I decided to open her door and let her out and leave the door open so I could keep an eye on her from the other room. I opened her cage and started to walk out but turned around to a bird who was clinging to the door, leaning as far out toward me as she could stretch. Ok. I picked her up and took her in the bedroom, set her down on the end of the bed and let her take her time. She walked right up to me, bowed her head and fluffed up her whole head. What a lovely little introduction from a very easy going girl. Her owners told us a little bit about her and we are eagerly waiting for her to say: "IIIIIII have a prettttttty red tail!"

I have left Pookies cage door open for part of the day to give her some out time and the past few days I have watched her climb down off her cage and board the vacant cage next to hers - for one purpose. She likes to sit on top and look out the window at traffic!...and she just sits there so content! What a little love!

So, I have a feeling that Pookie won't be sticking around long if a certain somebody who has been very patiently waiting for the right grey meets her and falls in love.

Here she is.

Wow what a wonderful
Grey she looks so laid back compared to most of the other CAG's I have seen. Lovely eyes unafraid and warm. I am certain she will find a home very quickly.

Anna -

Glad to hear Sunshine is doing so well, altho a selfish little part of me was hoping he and Bentley would not get along.

I've still got a busted computer which is why I haven't been around.

Has Pookie got any one she likes enough to follow home yet? Inquiring minds want to know. Just wondering if she might still be there when we all come and visit, it would be delightful to meet her face to beak and the rest of your wonderful family & flock too!

Pookie is still here and she is a wonderful bird. She will really need to be matched well with her special someone. When she really likes someone, she lights up, chatters, bounces, blows kisses and shows off like I haver never seen a grey do before. I am trying not to get toooo close with her because she really likes me, and I don't want that to interfer with her bonding to someone else. To those she doesn't have a connection with, she just kind of sits and shivers - I guess her way of saying "hey, I just don't think this is going to work out." She absolutely adores sitting on top of her cage to look out the window and will go find a window if she is not near one. She keeps herself occupied by sitting on her cage repeating her out of tune version of pop-goes-the-weasel and it's totally adorable. When it's time for lights out she proclaims "bedtime for birdies" and "I love you maaaaamaaaa!"

Jill, to answer your question, yes, I am quite sure that pookie will still be here in July - and if any of you are interested in any of the birds we are fostering while you are here, please say so. You are among the best homes that I know of and I would be delighted to send one of my birds to any one of you.

We usually don't get them at our rescue....I guess there has just been a wave of them lately. They are usually quiet enough and well mannored enough to stay in their original homes, thank goodness.

I've noticed there are not many green cheeks going to rescues either...
I had thought about adopting a green cheek, since I love Stewy so much, his personality is just perfect. But I have been to a couple of rescues, and searched them online, and have NEVER found one.
African Grays are too much of a handful for me at the moment...but it's one of those birds I see in my future! For sure! =)

I see Green Cheeks on Craigs list in our area fairly often there must be a breeder close by.

Green-cheek conures or green-cheek Amazons(a/k/a Mexican re-headed Amazon)?

The bird shop had one of those, too, very young. They didn't want to tell me how young. It was also cute and wanted attention, but at the same time it was a little shy.
