As some of you may know I am thinking of adopting Hobbit from our Anna (FoxerArtist). But after birdie-sitting for 2 weeks I'm not so sure. Zoey was SUPER jealous of the smaller bird- doing her best hawk impression when she was out of her cage (puffing up and landing on the other cage and totally trying to intimidate little charlie!) and when charlie was out she would throw a fit and scream. For two weeks I could deal with it but I'm not sure about a life-style change. I don't think it would be too bad if I had another room that I could go into (perhaps to house Hobbit?) but right now I have no other "safe" rooms- I have dogs/cat in the other parts of the house and I don't trust them. They don't mess with Zoey (and I don't give them a chance to) but Hobbit would make a nice target (size-wise) Eventually I'd like to make my second ferret room into a bird room (for emotional reasons I'm not doing my ferret rescue as much, its too hard seeing them pass away with their short life-spans:crys:) But I think I will do better with birds.
I would like to get another bird, I do love them- and I LOVE little Hobbit- she's adorable! But I don't want to put her in a bad situation. What do you think? How do you deal with a jealous only "child" that might hurt the other? I don't want innocent Hobbit to fly to Zoey's cage and get injured, and I don't want Zoey to bully her, but I have no other room to put her cage. They would have to be side-by-side.
Should I wait until I have a better set-up to add another bird to the family?

that's a tough decision to make. I think your answer is in your post.

It is sometimes hard to do what you know is right. Talk with Anna, she will have good advise to help in your decision. :hgz:

I think after seeing Zoey's reaction to Charlie, you may very well have something to be concerned about. Hobbit is very special and it would be heartbreaking to see something happen to her. I think it might be wise to wait until you can put a bit more distance between Zoey and a new bird. Those M2's have awful big beaks! If hobbit wasn't meant to go home with you, your special bird will come along in due time! I support you regardless of what you decide because I know that you are a responsible person, but I will completely understand if you pass on bringing her home.

Don knows a lot, but I'm positive there are others here with multiple birds that can help. I'm in the same position with Chicken. I'll eventually be adding kids and fids to our little flock. I'm as curious about this topic as you are Michelle.

Possible that the reaction is because this is some thing new in his home. Also possible jealousy is rearing it's pretty pink head. It sounds like now is just not the right time for Hobbit to join your flock. I would be too worried about her safety myself.
