Sydney has been doing really well and has even come out of her shell a little bit since I have been home from houston. She still has a bald patch between her legs and a smaller one on her back but her feathers are filling in nicely with no sign of plucking. She adores shreddable toys and I think that having more than a few hanging in her cage at a time really helps keep her mind off her feathers. Her diet is constantly improving and she even sampled some mixed veggies for me a few days ago but her all time favorite will probably always be walnuts in the shell.

A few days ago I was feeling really down about my health and had had enough of fussy babies for a while so I left Andy to babysit the kids in the house and went out in the aviary to spend some quality time with our birds. I decided it would be nice just to sing my cares awayand love all over the birds. I cannot express how much I was ablew to lift their spirits just by singing a special little song to each individual. Sydney seemed to be the only bird out there who did not seem instantly overjoyed by the musical attention, but she did cock her head to the side to listen. As soon as I moved on to give some lovin' to some of the other birds, Syd came down from the top of her cage when she thought I wasn't looking, sat on her cage door and just preened her heart out. You could tell that she had experienced a total mood boost and she was just as happy as could be. That made me feel really good.

Today Sydney was spoiled with lots of special treats that came in the mail from her mommy including birdy bread and some spicy pecans. She loved those nuts but also sampled the birdy bread once it had cooled down. Late in the afternoon, I went out and stood in front of her cage, weaving a palm shredder through her cage bars and after watching me for a few minutes, she came down to help. She took her end of the shredder up to the top, bobbed her head and proclaimed "Mmmmm!" and then "Move your beak!" I imagine that her new decorations wont last too long!

Here are some recent pictures and videos.

WOW! She looks SO good! Much more active than the last video, like she's feeling more sure of things! That's great! Good to know she is enjoying the treats and that the toys are fun & entertaining for her.
