Cosmo is a 1 1/2 year old quaker parakeet who arrived early this morning and we are looking forward to getting to know him. I let him out of his cage and up and away he went. Around and around the livingroom in graceful circles. Down the hall and around the corner, whoosh! It was really quite impressive to watch him fly, though I always cringe to think they might hit a window at such high speeds and it would all be over with. Cosmo had a beautiful last flight and I felt like somewhat of a criminal while clipping him a few minutes later, but the job had to be done...too many other beaks that might chomp such a little guy if he ended up in the wrong place at the wrong time.
Cosmo may not have a chance at being "UP" for adoption. Michelle is still recovering here and fell in love. She held him and gave him a good snuggle for a while in hopes that he might forget about the clipping. He seemed to respond to her. I told her that we would have to play it by ear.
Cosmo's previous owner was a nice woman and seemed really upset to let him go but was doing what needed to be done for Cosmo's safety. She does foster care and is currently taking care of a blind child with some mental health issues who took a great disliking to Cosmo's chatter. He became frustrated with the quaker and started to show violence toward him and so she was afraid he would kill the bird when no one was looking. She called us up and we made space for him since it seemed to be of an urgent nature.
I'll get pictures of the little sweety as soon as I get the chance. And for those of you wondering, no...I don't think Cosmo rides the short bus.
