Linus hasn't been himself at all this spring and lately he's been giving me the squinty evil eye look that always tells me something is not to his liking. Theo treats me like the mean lady who stops her from getting any. I spend so much time pulling or keeping them apart that neither are getting any decent out of cage time. So today I just let them do it. They are shameless about this behavior and didn't seem to care that I was just inches away. Linus was standing on her back. Theo was all but flat and I'm just praying that Linus is a minute man.

Finally, he gets done, steps off of her and immediately goes into his victory dance, crest up and bellowed 'woo-hoo' for all the world to hear. This was not as satisfying an event for Theo, however, and she started chasing him. Typical guy though, Linus was happy and that's all that mattered. Theo acted like a little hussy for the rest of the day trying to stir up interest. Linus has returned at least temporarily to his old self. I did notice later in the day that Linus was cooing to her as he preened her. This is a sound reserved only for me during cuddle sessions. It was very sweet to watch and he was very patient with her naughty behavior throughout the day.

For those of you who are curious, I don't think they actually made proper contact and I am not hoping for any gobrellas.

Oh Patty,
this is sooo heartbreaking to read even if I want to cover my mouth so that a little giggle does not pop out. I guess what I really want to ask is...

How are you?

I would be so heartbroken if I were in your situation. If Peggy Sue suddenly found interest in another macaw and treated me like old hat, I would just go cry in my soup somewhere. (Yes, soup, I don't like beer. Well, then again, I don't like most soup either. Ok wait - I would go cry in my mudslide? Meh, you get the picture.) So how are you holding up? Are the other birds at least offering some sympathy cuddles?

Thanks Anna. I'm fine. Linus hasn't been shunning me. He really doesn't seem to care much about Theo (who just adores him). He puts up with her for the most part, and is continually walking away from her. It's really her that I feel bad for.
Linus is normally a very gregarious, outgoing bird. He seems to enjoy everything, but he just hasn't been that way as much this spring. There's a look that he gets in his eye that is his most revealing body language. I can only refer to it as that squinty look that means he's either unhappy or is suspicious of something going on around him. Now maybe I'm anthropomorphisizing (sp?), but I have been taking it as sexual frustration - almost but no cigar several times a day. And since I can't continue to cage them or stand between them for the rest of the spring, I let them have their way. It was actually a really big decision for me.

I really appreciate the concern though, Anna, and if it were the case that Linus had traded me in for Theo, I would be devastated and crying in my Cherries Garcia. He still loves me though and I don't mind sharing the lovey-dovey cooing with Theo. I only hope I haven't initiated what will be a problem in the future.

Have you ever watched the macaw in their opening segment? It's still masturbating even if it is in time with music. Check it out.

Anytime Linus seemed that way with us, we took him on a walk. As you know, he loves to socialize with people and absolutely loves attention from strangers. Even if we just sat with him in the front yard as other people walked by, he was constantly making a spectacle of himself and drawing people over to meet him. He has also changed so much but I'm not sure the ham in him will ever go away!

Oh he's still a ham, Jamie. I have him outside everyday doing just what you described. The neighbors talk to him more than me. "Hey Linus, and what was your name again?" These are the times when he's himself. Maybe Theo's just driving him crazy being all over him all the time. I don't know. I just hope spring ends soon, and that they know it.
