Or is it part of the video card? I think I need a new one. Music doesn't play well on the slide shows.

Most motherboards will support sound production to a certain point, if you want good quality stereo or surround-sound you'll need to add a sound card - I use soundblastre cards, but there are many on the market.

Recently when I play one of the slide shows, the music starts and stops. I just want a steady sound. I'll try to remember soundblastre. Now, is that something I can put in or will I need to call an expert?

the Soundblaster cards I have used are from Creative , and just plug in (inside the computer in slots in the motherboard) the computer and are considered 'plug and play"
