I've lived in my area of Oklahoma for 5 years now. Route 66 is a part of my daily life. Heck, the main street of my town is Route 66. There are meusems and parks and all that good stuff dedicated to attracting tourists to visit. With all this, I had never traveled 66 from point A to point B. I've used it to go to the grocery store or to get to my sisters house, but I'd never actually driven it.
Well, today I did. After school instead of jumping on the interstate, I hit the mother road. It was AMAZING! It took me 40 minutes longer than usual to get home, but it was worth it. I never knew there was such pretty country to be seen from Old 66. It was definitely worth it.
What is hiding in your back yard that you should take time to see?

with my hubby, we take scenic routes all the time. We take differnet roads all the time when we go places. Glad you took the time and saw the country!

Dad would take us for a ride in the car when we were children. Something different to do. With a larger family and only dad working there wasn't a lot of money to spend. Our favorite was telling Dad to get lost. We would tell him different places to turn. We sure did discover a lot of interesting thing and it was one way to learn more about Chicago. Still have the sense of adventure to this day.
