Chrissy -- how often does Cassie do repetitive behaviors like that?

There is a reason for my question... I am trying to link certain behaviors with plucking.

Please enlighten me.

Larry that was only the second time I had seen her do that... she has a perch that is angled on slope that she sometimes likes to run back and forth on she will do it for about 5 minutes then wont do it for days. Hope this helps and I will be on the look out for other similar behavior. Hope this helps...

What I am looking for is Obsessive Compulsive Behavior Disorder.

In some circles of the avian scientific community there are thoughts that plucking is preening taken to the extreme. The bird gets carried away with a good behavior.

We sometimes don't realize or recognize mental problems in animals... for instance - we have all seen dogs chase their tails -- going round and round in circles - over and over again until they are exhausted. Some people think this is cute - but in reality - dogs that exhibit this behavior are mentally ill.

When Baby was in her Kings 302 cage (3 feet X 2 feet) she would run her cage. She would quickly go to her perch and then up the side of the cage - round and round in a frantic. She would work herself up so much that when I opened her cage door - she would jump/lunge out of her cage.

Now that she is in a 3 feet X 4 feet cage she no longer exhibits that behavior.

Animals are no different than humans. In humans - there are normal behaviors, neurotic behaviors, and psychotic behaviors. Some are situational (temporary) and others are long term and sometimes permanent. It all depends on how chronic or acute a behavior is as to whether it is classified as a deep mental illness.

Larry if I see anything that appears to be compulsive behavior I will film it and let you see it... I will try anything that may give answers to the plucking.. if we can find out the why then the fix can perhaps be found.... we can only hope.

It looked to me like she was giving the 'I want to come out now' walk. Linus and my previous U2 circled their cages (roof, side, bottom, side) when they want to come out. It's like restlessness. It is the behavior that preceeds the sreaming 'I want to come out'.

She may have been Patty, I did in fact get her out as soon as I put the camera away...
