Fred the Elanora took a step backwards yesterday. After 4 days with no self injury he began picking at his chest yesterday. Have a call in to his Vet and will update you later today. The damage is minor at this point but I can see the obsession in his manner. Send the little guy your prayers for healing please it always helps. :hart:

Well your Fred and my Carl must have been channeling each other, because Carl had to go back into his cone today. I have a call into the vet to see about getting him a collar similar to the one you have.

This is such a frustrating heart wrenching thing to live with. At least you know that we are giving them the best home possible with as much love as possible. Quite possibly the most we can do for them at this stage in the game. Our dilligence will help them with self preservation.

Big huggs, and I'll PM you in case you ever need to just vent!

Our Doctor does not like that collar he says it puts the neck in an unnatural position and he prefers the cone. It may depend on how long he is needing to wear it. Interested in your Vets opinion. You are right there must be a disturbance in the force.

Normally we will just leave Carl in the cone till the wound is healed, and there is no longer an "open wound" for dirties to get into. Sorry for those who are offended or grosed out by this.

He does not get a lot of play time, or even get around his cage much when he is in the cone so we try to limit his time in as much as possible. He had been doing really good I think 7 or 8 weeks, and he will probably spend about 2 in the cone now. We will let him have breaks at night though and get a good meal or two and come cuddles in!

Keep us updated with Fred, I'll let you know what my vet says.

There was a lady that posted on one of my groups that she made her bird a "shirt" to put on him and keep him from plucking. I will see if I can find it and post it. She did it because she didn't like the way the cone collar made him even more uncomfortable.

Oh Fred! You are just to sweet to be hurting yourself. Poor, sweet little guy. I will certainly keep him in my prayers. How disapointing though. I was really rooting for him to leave that distruction behind for good. If anyone can help him heal emotionally and physically, it's you, so I'm glad he is in the best place possible.
