Where do you live?I'm sure you've checked the local rescues and such...but you could also subscribe to petcycle...you'll see some really sad things on there...but just recently, they had to rescue 33 birds from a lady that passed away, and were giving them to good homes. As you said, it may take time, but might be worth looking into.

have you checked on www.petfinder.com (http://www.petfinder.com) type in your zip code and there are usually several I find.

You can also check the Craigs lists in your area. Make certain you talk with them first & get a friend or relative to go with you to view the bird. Try to get any medical records, current diet & any other pertinent information also.

Our local bird club (nowhere near you, unfortunately) keeps a list of birds up for adoption. Do you have a club in your area? And there must be a recue nearby even if not listed in the phone book. If you have a bird shop or store that sells birds, see if they will let you post a small note on the window/door, wherever it will be seen. They might know about birds looking for homes or rescues, too.

No I dont have a bird club close to me and would never deal with one of those anyway . I have put up flyers at my vets office like 4 months ago and have never heard anything from those . I have been trying for so long . I find that most ppl here in florida are greedy with their birds and maybe that is every where i dont know I just know from running into ppl that they think because you live in florida that you are rich and made of money . I am definately not one of those ppl and that is why next yr I am moving away from florida . It has to be one of the most greedy and worst states to live in . I am so glad my husband has gotten a transfer .

There are so many homeless birds in rescues that need homes. Some are not reputable. They just take in birds to resell. But there are legitimate ones who do charge a relatively small adoption fee, but nowhere near the price you would pay if you purchased one.

Of course, paying for the bird is probably the cheapest thing you will do. Bird food, toys, cage, vets, will all end up costing you way more than you spend on a bird--even if you paid retail.

Some of the birds in rescues have baggage. A lot of the time, that is the reason they are there. Many are able to be rehabilitated at the rescue. A good rescue will work with you to match you and a bird.

I wish you were closer to me. There is hardly a week goes by that I don't hear about some bird needing a home. Where are you being transferred to?

BTW, I would move away from Florida just because of the alligators and those darn black bugs that cover your windshield! Aren't they called kissing bugs, or something like that?

Evelynhey they are called love bugs and we are being transferred to tennessee and i already know of a couple of rescues up there and they dont charge near as much as they do down here in florida . I found one rescue that charges 50.00 for an amazon and 100.00 for an african grey . I dont find that greedy at all . I swear florida is one of the most greedy states I have ever lived in .thanks .
