I went to meet Blossom B&g and Molly GW today. When I saw Molly, my heart skipped a beat. She was so curious and full of energy. When she was let out of her cage, she kept climbing all over and kept looking to make sure I was still watching her. She was eager to step up and let me put her back on her cage and then step up again and again. If I was paying attention to Blossom, I felt Molly grabbing at my back or shoulder to step up. She is jealous of the attention the other birds get.

Blossom is more withdrawn and had to be forced out of her cage. She is the one that doesn't like men. She was very nervous and jumped and flinched if someone moved too fast or even if Zeus the Hyacinthe screamed.
When her owner was holding her, she made her way across his shoulders to step up on me. I was able to put her back in the cage and then retrieve her with a step up. While she was on my shoulder, and I was talking to the owner, she leaned against my head. She does have some plucking issues and is jittery, but very sweet.

The cages were horrendous to say the least. . .chipped paint across the whole length of the bars, rust and cascading flows of petrified poop running down the sides of the cages. Both Blossom and Molly smelled sour and their feathers felt waxy and sticky. Blossom seemed to be the worse of the two of them. As I watched the two birds, I knew that Blossom needed to be the one to come home with me. Molly did not give up on her efforts of trying impress me. Apparently a breeder out in California is interested in taking her as a breeder and was willing to pay to have her shipped out there. Her current owner is not comfortable with shipping birds that distance (NJ-Ca).

I decided that both the girls will coming home with me soon. On the way home, I found out, from the adoption liaison that went with me, that the owner wished that I would take both birds, but he wanted it to be my decision.

Here is the link to some pictures from today. Zeus, the Hyacinthe is staying with the owner.

I am so glad you are taking the both of them - I was hoping for that. They do need to be kept together.

Are you going to get the cages they are presently in? If so and if they are large enough for them and built well - you could have them sandblasted and powder coated at a local company.

Just a thought.

Their present cages are very old and aside from being filthy, the have missing bars and broken parts. When I saw how much raw metal was exposed, I decided that both birds will get tested for heavy metal levels.

Do you know if Richards Kings location in New Brunswick is a storefront where I pick up cages and save the higher store markup and freight costs?

Go to www.kingscages.com (http://www.kingscages.com) and get their phone number - give them a call.

. . . .Blossoms beak looks kinda scuffed up.

There is a lot rough broken metal and she likes to hang by her beak from the top of the cage. "Look Mom, no feet".

Thanks everyone. We were there for about three hours and I hated to leave without them.

I explained to Cloud about the girls and that they would be coming to live with us and he stared into my eyes, listening to every word. When I finished, he curled his head down on my chest and waited for scritches. I think he'll be OK with this . . . . as long as I remember, he is Number 1.

I don't mind him chatting with own kind, I just wish he'd leave my laptop alone and stop ordering stuff for himself online. The little feather butt memorized all my credit card numbers.:tellu:

They are beautiful and it sounds like you will be a much better mum then they have now. Its a pity that the hyacinth had to stay behind I don't think that owner should have any animals by the sound of it.

He really loves his birds, but he has 8 of them and he is all by himself. I think things got to be too much for him, but I think he knows he's doing the right things by reducing his flock by half. I'm not sure which of the other birds that were there were going to be rehomed.

I'm so glad you decided to take both of them!Heads up...when I ordered my King's cage...they didn't charge me tax or shipping on the price listed...Not sure where you live...or if that even makes a difference, but it might be something worth looking into.

I live in New Jersey. I have a tax exempt card at Pet Goods, but the store markup negates that savings. I live about 50 minutes from Kings Cages location in New Brunswich, NJ and will be calling them later today to see if I could buy irectly from them and save the shipping charges.

Diane -

Congratulations are your two new babies! They are very lucky birds to be able to come live with you. I wish you could have gotten the hyacinth, too.

Was the hyacinth's cage in as bad a shape as the two.

I wonder how the owner would like to live in the filth he makes his birds live in.

All the cages were pretty much in the same condition. I know I couldn't afford to feed the Hy. The owner has 100 lb bags of Macadamia nuts shipped from Hawaii or California a couple times a year.

Shipping alone would be dreadful especially now, I wonder how good his vision is? the cage yukkiness may be failing vision as we age that kind of detail is more difficult to determine. I would not have bought that story a few years ago bu now I am begining to understand. Palm nuts are a good resource also for the big Macaws.

I'm so glad you're taking them, but the cage conditions kind of make me wish he wasn't keeping Zeus.. it sounds like there's just not enough time to go aroumd right now. Both Blossom and Molly are beautiful. :)

I cannot tell you how excited I am for you! HUURRRAAY! I know that you will be the most awesome macaw momma ever! I will pray that Cloud does well with them. Benny boy is terrified of the macaws...but it has not altered his personality any, and I think overall having macaws around has been good for him. I can't wait to hear more about these precious jewels!

Never buy an Avian Adventure cage. I have two of them (long story) and they are terrible. The design has many flaws.

I bought 2 Kings Cages Model 306 in white. They are being delivered tomorrow evening. I have to assemble them. My local Pet Goods had the big cages on sale a couple of weeks ago, but now they have none on display. When I asked the manager if he could get the 306, he said he had 2 white ones in his warehouse and gave me a price $700 less each than what Richard King has them listed for on his website ($1499).

I hope the girls like them. I got identical cages so they wouldn't be jealous and fight over each others if they were different.

I'm also going to have to take my laptop upstairs with me when I go to bed, because I know once Mr Cloud sees the size of the girls cages, he'll be trying to order a BIGGER ONE for himself. I wish he hadn't memorized my credit card numbers. :madd:

The room that is going to be the bird room, needs to be painted (on a warm day so Cloud and cage can be rolled out onto the porch) and it has a ceiling fan that I want removed and replaced with a bird friendly light fixture. I'm hoping to pick them up in about a week. I'm going to stop a the avian vet with them on the way to my house. I have to see what time slots are available with the vet.

It all came back when I saw the name Molly. So you are getting them both? Good girl. I think the too dander and the B&G were discussed. Jenell says her macaws have more dander than her tooz. She has two of each. I'll be curious to see what you say about it.

See Dot, I knew your brain circuitry just needed a little jump start.

The girls will have their own room with two windows for cross ventilation. Cloud will be moved from the adjacent livingroom to the kitchen for the quarentine period. I have one Hunter air purifier and will be getting another. When I thought I was going to get one bird, I planned on eventually getting a new cage and using the cage Blossom or Molly came in as an outside cage on the fromt porch. But, the cages were in such bad shape, I don't even want them in my yard.

The birds, that Blossom and Molly have been sharing a room with (Approx 12x20), are a Hyacinthe, a U2, a M2, a Hahns (I think) and 2 greys. I saw one air purifier which I don't think was on.

I can't wait to get the girls home.

Thank you for your kind offer. I'm Ok with the cages, but I'm a newbie to the exotic bird world and am sure I will be needing lots of advice from experienced and knowledgable members of the Happy Birdy flock. Knowing I can depend on everybody here for help, was a major contributing factor for going ahead with this endeaver.

I have a 9 year old Goffin Too that I agreed to take before I even knew what a Goffin looked like. For two weeks before I picked him up I bought a dozen books and learned all I could about the little feathered alien.
Cloud has been very tolerant of my inexperience and has agreed to keep me in an effort to educate me to his needs and desires. And yes, he has taken advantage of me on a regular basis. When he reports back to the Mothership, he tells them that as a fledgling I rode the 'short pod'.

If you "ride the short pod" them I'm the one being towed behind it......

Very excited about the girls, hope you get to bring them home sooner rather than later!
