Anna -

I haven't bugged you because I knew you were busy with the wedding and trying to get everybody well.

I would like an update on Sunshine, though. Any new words? New behaviors? Is he relaxing any more?

I'm sure by the end of the month I will have enough strength of character to make the very best decision for Sunshine. To be whole heartedly honest, I am really dreading having to make a decision about Sunshine. If he goes to you, I will be happy because I know you will be a fantastic home who will provide home all he needs plus updates. If he goes to my friend, I will be blessing her with a great treasure and something she is deeply hoping for. I know that Sunshine will make the decision - so deciding will be easy. Telling one of the two of you that you will not be bringing Sunshine home will be very hard on me...and it will be equally hard regardless of who I have to tell. All of that being said, I am still very much looking forward to meeting you soon!

Sunshine has seemed to relax some, which is really great - I only hope he is not settling in so much that another move will be hard on him. He is so active for a grey and bounces all over his cage playing and swinging and just being a weirdo. He continues to say off the wall things...some of which he starts saying regularly and some that he only says once without repeating again. He is not talking in context as much as he did when he first arrived and babbles a lot. I am curious as to whether or not this has anything to do with the fact that we have totally trashed his former routine. He really does not know what to expect at this point, which will probably help him to better adjust in his new home. I can't really think of many of the things I have heard lately. I told me that UPS came when they left a package for me this afternoon. He said something about "Put that quarter in your pocket" the other day...but it wasn't related to anything else. He is allowing most everyone pet him inside his cage but has decided that he absolutely will not step up unless he is on the cage door and wants to come out. He has been swinging like a monkey in a tree. He leans way out, grabs the cage bars while perches on his swing and then lets the bars go, causing the swing to go tospy-turvy and he thinks that is great fun. He seems to have a great time with life!

I was just asking about Sunshine--not referring to your dilemma. I know that the outcome, whatever it is, will be difficult for you.

Waiting is difficult for me, too, as I am sure it is for Bentley. It's harder than waiting for a baby to be weaned so you can bring it home, because you know that at the end you will be bringing him home.

On the one hand I want to know everything about Sunshine and everything he does. If I had my way, we would have a 24-hour webcam on him. OTOH, I am trying not to become too attached to him in case he doesn't come home with me.

I realize what a treasure he is.

When you are adding up the pros and cons of who should have him, I don't want one of the factors to be that I will be less disappointed than Bentley. But at the same time, I can assure you that if I don't bring Sunshine home (and the reason is fair), I'm not going to hold it against you. Although he is the dream bird of a lifetime for me, I won't fall to pieces without him (well, maybe for a couple of days :smiles:), but I will recover. When I decided that I wanted a parrot, I had in mind an African Grey. There just weren't any available around here at the time, and another bird came along that needed a home. And then I fell in love with cockatoos. Hubby is in love with one cockatoo only (Betty, the LSC, who wants to be his permanent neck warmer). The others he thinks are too noisy. He really likes Tamar, though (the CAG), which is why he is willing to add another CAG.

Anyway, let's don't talk about who Sunshine is going home with now--just about him. More video, please!

I don't remember if he was the "only bird" his owner had. If so, or if there were only one or two more, then being around a lot of birds may be affecting him. He may not be getting the attention he did at his former home. Altho he would not be my "only bird," I only have three others at home, so he would get a lot of attention. If he turns out to be a "traveling bird," I would take him to the office with me on the days I go in. I do most of my work from home now.

I'm glad he is playing. I think that is a good sign that he isn't depressed. My Plato plays a lot, too (not an intended pun). He hangs upside down in his cage, flaps his wings, plays with all his toys enthusiastically. He loves running up and down on the back of the couch. He will follow my hand with his head like a cat and pounce on it. I wouldn't let just any bird do that for fear of being bitten, but there is no danger with Plato. He is very gentle with his beak. Except with newspaper. Newspaper is an opponent that has to be subdued. It must be shaken and holes must be poked in it and it must be thrown to the floor and then pounced on.

More Sunshine, please.
