hi I am new here and I have a re homed quaker and he is the sweetest thing . He also was abandoned by his previous owner and was left at my work which was a vet clinic . his wing was deformed the owner said he was born like that he also had other health issues and my vet asked me if I wanted him and I told him absoloutly . when I first got him I knew absoloutly nothing about quakers and Had ,had bigger birds like the macaws and I had one ringneck and that had been it . They were stolen by my ex and sold . So needless to say i sure miss them . but arnold has brought the beauty of bird ownership back into my life . I have done so much research and getting my hands on anything I can read . I also cook for him ,like birdie bread and oatmeal . I feel like he is another child i am raising . and it is true they are our kids only we call them fids . I also believe god puts you where he needs you to be when the time calls for it . Such as the way i got arnold . He needed me as much as I needed him but did not know it at the time . :):dancered:Mama to arnold the quaker and two chis gin and kahlua and rehema (the rottie) .

Hi! Congrats to you and Arnold! Can't wait to hear more Quaker tales... I love mine SO much. Yes, they are like kids. We worry about them and do everything humanly possible for them. Even if it means driving a used car that needs to be painted .....like mine! :haha:

Welcome Cathy. :welcome: Enjoy the posts of the past as they have a lot of good information. You will also find sticky's at the start of some of the heading. Stickies give information we have found to be helpful to others at a quick glance.

I will caution you to watch for these guys >>>>:alien: and you will see some threads about them. Just to let you know they are harmless!

We get excited about good things for our birds like you getting Arnold and we celebrate this :hpydnc: in many different ways :claps::dancingg

Quakers are sure little cuties. Even with their big bird persnalities they are such loving little things. Great talkers so they sure can keep you company. They are known to get a bit territorial of their cages so it is nice to have a play area away from the cage. Looking forward to hearing more about Arnold.

Hi, Cathy and welcome. Now that everyone has greeted you, let me make a suggestion. Read the label on that oatmeal. Does it have iron added? If it does, don't feed it at all. Some birds have trouble with too much iron in their systems. Remember that Arnold is a bird and he needs a wide variety of fresh veggies and a limited amount of fruit. He can't hold very much because he is small, so you might want to rethink the oatmeal. That is just my opinion.
