I did a little google on latex perches and found an article at Dr. Fosters and Smith about them. It says they can be hygienic and easy to clean but slippery. I figure they're easy to chew and just as easy to swallow if your birds bad about that already.

I was wondering if anyone had any experience with them?

While looking at their shop, I noticed several items I have already read are not bird safe. Figured I'd ask here before I spent any money on getting items from there.

They have flavored cuttle bone, has anyone tried those? What about flavored calcium blocks?

Bonnie tells me the only flavored items he should get are ones that he eats, so I figure the flavored calcium and cuttlebone would be okay.
Just wanted to check with the experts here first though. :hihihi:

Too's should be getting all they need as far as Calcium from their diet, if not you can add a supplement powder on their food. I would not suggest using either the cuttle bone or the calcium block, especially not if they are flavored. Those items are really for the smaller birds and again would not recommend anything but plain. I would need more information about the perch but slippery is not good & if not enough is known then say no.

Just remember, just because someone sells it for birds, doesn't mean it's safe. You have to be the judge of that. I wouldn't use the latex perches. I only use the real wood perches & a few comfy perches but not for my TOOS as they tear them apart and can become entangled in them.
Not everything on Drs Foster/Smith site is safe in my opinion, I do shop from there for many things, but alot of the stuff I won't buy.

Slippery is not good... and I would think they would be easy to chew up... I will settle for harder to clean if I have to. I know I cant give Cassie anything plastic because she does shave it and I'm not sure if she is swallowing it so I feel its safer not to give it to her anymore...

U2 or any bird that is a big chewer will find these perches a delight to chew taking out big chunks. Because of this it makes these perches unsafe. Toos especially love taking little nibbles of items. IN this case they might ingest an item. Latex will not break down.

As many know there are more and more people developing latex allergies so I try to avoid latex. Plain old wood works just fine.

For me too AngelBaby still has her comfy perches but she has not started destroying them (YET) I will take them out as soon as she starts chewing them up...other than that plain wood of different sizes.

The calcium and cuttle bone are for Echo (Sun Conure) as would be the latex perches. The only appealing aspect of the latex was that the perches came in long lengths without huge diameters.

I'm looking for a way to create a sort of perch that will take him all the way from the dome down to the area beneath the playpen. I'll check into some ladders when we go shopping this weekend. He just moved into it last night, so maybe he'll try moving around more when he gets used to it.

Have you looked at the pet store for long wood perches that are designed to go from one side to the other in the cage....

Ash, you should come over and check out my trees... I have a bunch of long branches that aren't very thick... I'll show you how to make a perch.
