I've been telling Tamar (my l-year-old CAG) that she might be getting a new brother and how amazing he is.
I think she doesn't want to be outdone by another CAG, so she has started adding words and phrases to her vocabulary like crazy.
It wouldn't surprise me for the two of them to converse with each other in human language!
Tamar isn't mean-jealous, but if somebody else is getting attention, she wants some too. It makes her sweeter. Sometimes she is reluctant to step up to get out of her cage, but if we are paying attention to Plato or Betty, she comes over to her door perch and can't wait to step up.
Plato, OTHOH, can't wait to step up. If I stick my fingers through the bars of his cage to skritch him, he will step up on my fingers and hold on tight. I can always depend on him to step up (or down, as the case may be) wherever he is. I've never seen a sweeter bird. He never bites. I can pick him up like a chicken and he just stays still with his feet hanging down until I put him down somewhere. He doesn't mind being toweled. He'll let me pick up his feet to file his toes. He eats anything and everything. He is happy to play by himself, altho he would rather be with me. He doesn't chew anything he isn't supposed to. He doesn't pluck. He pretty much stays where you put him.
He can be as loud as only a cockatoo can be, but only once or twice a day. His favorite toy is newspaper. He gets under it, tears it up, tosses pieces on the floor, covers himself up with it, shakes it like a dog with a toy, drags it around.
Of course, he is only 2 1/2, so all that could change once his hormones kick in. But I'm thinking he is so sweet, that he won't turn into Mr Hyde.
I'm sure you can tell I don't like my birds much!:haha:
