Full Spectrum Lighting contraversy

I have a room on the north side of the house (gets very little direct sunlight), that I plan on making into a bird room. It has a very old ceiling fan with a light kit. I will be removing the fan and light and want to replace it with a light that would be beneficial to birds. After reading Bills' posts on full spectrum lighting, it seems, if I understood it correctly, that any benefit would be lost since I'm not planning on hanging lights within 12-18 inches from the birds.

Any recommendations on what kind of light I could use and where I might be able to purchase it/them?

Hi, I'm looking for your recent post on aliens and saw this so I want to put in my two cents worth. Even if it doesn't help them, don't you think that things look different with the UV rays in the room? Maybe a room without UV rays doesn't show a bunch of colors that they would normally see.
