Do they have to be positioned a certain distance from the birdies? I would like to have it in my living room but AngelBaby is still in here. For now I am going to put it in the bedroom so the newness can be blown out of it. I did read that we dont need ionizer on, is it harmful to the birds?

Certinaly harmful to birds, and probably to humans as well.

While I hesitate to mention Consumer's Report (some members don't find it credible), they have a good article on air purifiers last year. We had just purchased a whole-house air purifier a couple of days before I read the article. My husband took the article to the place we bought it from, and they gave us our money back and came back and took it out, all without any hassle. I'll see if I can find it again.

If I am remembering correctly, the ionizer produces ozone, and is not safe to have running in doors for you or your birds.... Someone else please jump in if I am wrong...

Do not use the ionizer, they are hrmful to humans and birds. I have my purifier located in the livingroom & one in the bedroom, both are 10-15 feet from Stellas cage.

I am not as techinical as some are. My unit is called an air cleaner which true hepa filtratration.

Ozone production is harmful both to people and birds.

Those with heavy filtration move a lot of air and the air that exits is quite breezy. I would just make sure it doesn't blow on your bird, the cord is out of the way, the machine is not easily played with by your bird. Other wise you should be fine.

I just bought an Austin's Jr + yesterday. I do like it, but I noticed one thing (I'm such an idiot). I was noticing that I was coughing alot around Zoey, which is one of the main reasons I bought it- I thought if I was devoloping an allergy to her, I wanted to catch it right away before it got too bad. Today, after having it on for abit, I had Zoey out and STILL started coughing! Duh!:doh:Then it hit me. She's been snacking on the habinaro (sp?) peppers lately. Everytime she gets near me its like getting maced. So we are cutting back on those. She loves them though. I guess I'm just sensitive. Mystery solved! But the purifier works great. Zoey thinks its a mini-vacuum (because of the soft constant sound) and it calling to it. She was talking all night to that thing!

I didn't think of that, thats what AngelBaby was talking to last night... she took a little while to settle down last night which is unusual for her she normally only takes a few minutes after the cage is covered.
