I think it was a couple weeks ago we were all doing the "its spring, time for eggs" dance, have you had any babbies yet?

Our weather up here has been wonderful, in the mid 80s this last weekend, so I figured your birds would definately be enjoying the good early spring!

:hihihi:

The day before the 1st egg was due, PG&E (our power supplier) had a 10 1/2 hour outage - I lost everything that was in the incubator at the time. I tried all day adding hot water bottles to keep the temp up, but to no avail. :( 8 rosebreasted eggs and 1 Goffin egg - DIS.

Oh I am crushed for you, so disappointing and such waste. The power supplier here they referred to as Houston Looting & Plunder (HLP). Now they have a new name for them selves(Center Point) & many choices of providers but guess who still reads the meters?

I am so crushed to hear this, I am so sorry for your loss. I have been waiting for an update, and was curious why you have been so quiet lately.....

They truly do become part of you....

So are you thinking of a back up generator/battery now? Big huggs from up north....

What a horrible loss...
we don't think about things like losing power...and 1 day before they were going to start hatching? I would have been crushed. i'm so sorry Don.

Don, I'm very sorry to hear that... Poor babies :(

Thank you all for the kind words. I hope they do go back to nest, as I would certainly enjoy raising babies - it's a lot more fun than being a contractor.

I do have a generator, problem 'was' that the generator has a specific sine wave output, and it was not compatible with the Grumbach incubator - I now have a step-up converter that is made for European electronics and it'll hopefully never be needed, but if it is....I got it !

thanks, Don

OK, mo betta news to share !!

This morning I got up to find a completely hatched Rosebreasted Cockatoo baby :)

It was the last one laid by my 3 yr old handfed pair, and the only Rosie egg layed after the power outage. I also have a viable(so far) Goffin egg now.

Think good thoughts :)

Hi Sugarsmomma, I know it's even harder to lose them once we really get them out of the eggs - I hope you do well with the rest of the clutch. I have raised BHPionus, nice babies to work with - best wishes on ya !!

yes is is harder after they hatch. We have one pair of cockatails that will not sit and we are hand raising one of thier babies from day one.It was touch and go for the first week. The baby is now almost 3 weeks old and looking like a bird finally. We have lost more babies than I can count and it always hurts that we could not some how safe them. Good luck with the rosies babies. I think they are one of the prettest bird there is.
