I know you're busy, but how's my girl doing? Is she eating better? trying any new foods?

Hi There Brenda!
I know you had asked for an update earlier and I keep forgetting to give you one with all that is going on. i'm sorry!!!

Sydney is doing well, though she is not really making leaps and bounds with her progress in my opinion. Most of her progress has been physical and food related but she is staying the same, emotionally. She hasn't plucked any feathers in quite a while and all of her chest feathers are starting to "sprout." I am crossing my fingers that she keeps leaving them alone as she is prone to plucking them when the little blood feathers dry out to make way for the fully formed feather inside. Maybe she is into her toys enough now to leave them be!

Sydney has been trying new foods though she is not a health nut at this point. I'm happy that she is at least trying some new foods. Some of her favorites are scrambled eggs, cheese, dried papaya (LOVES this!!!!), walnuts, almonds, pistachios, and any type of pasta. She will also take some apple or grapes, some of the time. We're working our way toward veggies, but right now it's probably a good thing for her to be eating foods that are higher in fat. I sat with her tonight and we shared a plate full of butternut squash stuffed ravioli and she got quite excited about those, bobbing her head and exclaiming "Mmmmmm!" as I offered them to her.

She is still very shy and untrusting, but still very wanting of love. She steps up like such a good girl but I have to sit and butter her up before i can make any advances. It seems like the biggest way to her heart is through sitting and eating with her. If you have ever seen the macaw head bob, Sydney's version is almost so subdued that you want to laugh out loud at her because she is trying to let her hair down but she is coming off as so meek. Such a softy! I am really in love with her gentle natured personality - even though she means business and is not afraid to show you when she is displeased. What an interesting combination! She is really a treasure.

I took some photos but my camera battery died as I was trying to upload them so I will have to let it charge and post those tomorrow. I'm sorry again for forgetting to post an update on her. I know how excited you are to hear any little thing about her.

Forward progress no matter how slow is a good thing, by the way it doesn't sound all that slow to me.

I know you're busy, thank you!
One thing at a time, food & feathers are the most important, if she is eating good her feathers will show that her health is improving and she'll show more trust and personality in her own time I'm sure, sounds like it may take awhile. I worry about moving her and creating a set back, but being with you for 5 months should give her some stability.
She's gonna fit in SO well with us! Those are all foods that my flock likes, my Suns favs are the dried papaya also:) and momma LOVES pasta! I can eat it everyday of the week & the girls at work think I'm crazy when I have pasta for breakfast. :haha:
For her to be so shy & untrusting I would think there was some kind of fright she's had, I think you may have mentioned that in one of the 1st posts you did about her. I have been carefully planning where to locate her cage, and I think I found the perfect spot. It's by a window so she can look out if she wants, but it's also by a corner so she can hide if she needs to. I have to do some moving around of other birds, but everyone can be in the livingroom, I just have to move a chair to another room, and have to figure out somewhere else for the TV:confused:
I have birds that do all different things with me, but none of them eat with me on a regular basis, now I'll have an eating buddy:) OH! she justs gets more perfect everyday! I have her planned into my schedule already, she can come in and eat breakfast with me while I prepare the foods for the day and we can have our time before the rest of the flock gets up. OOh I hope she's an early morning girl, she may have different ideas for me. lol

I hope the new toys are of her liking, just holler if she needs more.

What's a TV again?
I honestly forget we have one. We went to visit with family over the weekend and gabe's cousin (who is his age) likes all sorts of movies like winnie the pooh and baby einstien. They have a Vtech Baby game system and a bunch of other stuff. Meanwhile Gabe is mixing imaginary cake mix in daddy's baseball cap and taking apart his toys with his imaginary screwdriver.
