I have a gram scale at home that I bought when I got Stella. That was 2 1/2 years ago, and I've weighed her EVERY moring without fail, and charted her weights daily. Excessive? maybe, but once I got in the habit, I didn't want to break it. I have watched her weight go up & down a few grams at a time but nothing ever drastic. If she ever starts getting sick, I'll KNOW. She is weighed everymorning before food & water and after poops so I only have birdy weight.
I'm not saying all birds should be weighed everyday, Cassie gets weighed once per week and logged on a chart, also the rest of the flock.
Here are a couple of links to AVERAGE bird weights, and also an article... Please keep in mind these are "average weights" not all birds are the same, and there are also 2 sizes of Umbies. Stella is a smaller one.

Thanks Brenda. Thanks for posting the sites.
Bird weight change is one of the first indicators letting us know something is wrong with our bird. One gentleman I know caught his bird having asper. Vets kept saying nothing was wrong and then he showed the vet his birds weight chart. He took his bird to the University of Georgia and baby made a complete recovery. Diligence does pay off.
Now...are you going to give us a bit of a course on poopology as we know that is important also

Harry a U2 is a weekly weigh in boy. I keep trying to get a picture of him bending down to look at the read out so funny like a weight conscious celebrity. He was badly underweight when we got him about 365 grams now he stays around 555 grams up or down one gram. If he is too quiet or his droppings look questionable to the scale we go.
Once a week is plenty. Actually, I think once every two weeks is plenty. I think that is what my vet recommended.
When the vet looks at the weights, he/she needs to be able to see weight trends. You really can't do that if you have to look at 365 weights.

It's just habit, and the chart I have you just read down one side and can see the weekly weights. It's just a "momma & Stella thing" part of our quiet time together.

Thanks for the links I have been curious about that.... I weigh the older birds weekly and AngelBaby daily... AngelBaby is heavier than Cassie.... Cassie pretty much stays at 488grams and AngelBaby has been staying between 505 and 515 grams... AngelBaby weighed more than Cassie when she was 3-1/2 months old...

I weigh my fids 1x a week usually..
my amazon usually weighs 345 grams..and when she went to the vet for a check up in October she weighed 311 and the vet said she was underweight (she is a rehome and was not in the best shape when I got her)...so the vet said come back soon and we will weigh her again and see if she gained any weight and she weighed 335..so the vet said she is now very healthy...she eats Roudybush, fresh seeds, fresh veggies/fruits,and birdie bread, when I got her she was only eating Zupreem Fruitblend and she was feather picking her legs/back..and now since I swiched her to Roudy..she has not been picking for a long time..I will have had her 2 years in August.
,my 2 sun conure's weigh 103 and 105 usually...and my cockatiels: Snickers...89 grams (she is a small tiel)...,Cricket weighs 90 or 92 usually..Chief weighs 100 (he is a big tiel but is not overweight)..and Piper weighs 90 grams.

I've only had my scale a month or so. I weighed him when I first got it and then the vet weighed him right before my visit to Anna's, so that's 2 times in a month. Chicken varies between 800 grams and 805 grams. he's a healthy boy!

I dont weigh as often as I should... maybe once a month. If I suspect somethng is up, they definitely get weighed daily. Cassius (Hawkhead) weighs 250 grams, Coke (Senegal Parrot) weighs 120 grams. Cyan (BFA) is 382 grams and Lancelot (if you can actually get her on a scale) is 377 grams (she is a small E2).

I'm trying to get Zoey weighed once a week. I have scales (for the ferrets and reptiles), but no perch to go with them, so I have to get her to stand on just the scale. Is there anyplace to buy just the perch and not the scale? Anyway Zoey was around 450g when I got her and last time I weighted her (last week) was 614g. She is still *sort of* weaning (I know, I know)- I did get her unweaned, but only on 2 feeding a day. She went down to one pretty quickly, but DARN she likes that nightly meal. She refuses it often now (more than once a week), but still likes it sometimes. She's about a year old, maybe slightly under, but it seems like I've had her forever. I have to admit I like doing the nightly feedings, because I can put a suppliment in every now and again. (I've been trying some Red Palm Oil? And some stuff from Avitech- anyone ever tried either?) I've not been overdoing it, just once a week I alternate what I put it. I'm not sure how much she is supposed to weigh as a goal though, I don't want her fat, but 600-1000g isn't much of a guide. I know they lose weight when weaning, I'm trying to avoid that. She eats well though, her pellets and fresh food every day, and if she decides to skip her baby food she'll eat them again at night. I know that the larger the bird the longer they take to wean, but is it ok to let her take her time? I'm trying to do the abundance thing, where she decides. I think its working ok. Thoughts?

Thats what I am doing with AngelBaby she is on one feeding a day, she takes her feeding everyday just some days she won't take all of it....
